Claudio Dauelsberg is a pianist, arranger, composer, educator and producer. Claudio had his master degree in Piano Performance from UFRJ, specialized in Arrangement, Composition, New Applied Technologies and Languages in Music by the Berklee College of Music. Also, he is a phD in Music by UNIRIO, where he teaches.

Claudio has in his discography 7 CDs and 2 DVDs. The CD “BACH” was recorded with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in Tchaikovsky Hall and awarded by Nord Deutsche Rundfunk. The CD “BEYOND THE IMAGES” was nominated for Sharp Prize, and the album “BRAZILIAN LANDSCAPES” was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The CD “NORTH WINDS” was recorded at Rainbow Studios in Oslo and he still has two recorded CDs with his first project, the DUO FENIX, which he plays in partnership with Delia Fischer.

Claudio is one of the most successful brazilian musicians working with mastery in both areas of popular and classical piano, involving interpretation, improvisation and composition, also composing for films and commercials.

He has performed with great personalities as Plácido Domingo, Bob Mintzer, Bireli Lagrene, Toots Thielemans, Chick Corea, John Bosco, Márcio Montarroyos, Hermeto Pascoal, Nico Assumption, Marcos Suzano, Jacques Morelembaum, Toninho Horta, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Genebra, Brasilia National Orchestra among others.

Claudio is responsible for promoting expressive movements in the area of brazilian instrumental music such as PianOrquestra, project created in 2002, where ethnic elements and brazilian roots are explored making the piano, played by ten hands simultaneously, become his own orchestra. With PianOrquestra recorded two DVDs, “TEN HANDS AND A PIANO” and “MULTIFONIAS, which saw the participation of big voices like Monica Salmaso, Teresa Cristina, Maira Freitas, Mariana Baltar and Manu Santos, its innovative visual design of Batman Zavareze.

His shows involve a high level technical performance and musical refinement with multiple backgrounds: solos, duos, trios and quartets, as well as performances with percussion groups and Big Band, as the “BIG BAND Carioca” (Carioca Big Band), who told with the participation of great musicians of the scene dedicated to the expressive repertoire of Brazilian composers.

With these diverse backgrounds participated in important festivals, including the Vancouver Jazz Festival (CAN) Belfast Fest (UK), Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), Midem (FR), Nordland Music Festival (NO), Aarhus International Jazz Festival (DEN) Sofia Jazz Festival (BU), Concertgebouw (NE) among others.

Claudio is a high performance instrumentalist. Operating in the brazilian instrumental music and exploring improvisation in jazz and contemporary music, Claudio also works as a composer and arranger. Appeared as soloist with chamber orchestras of Moscow and Genebra, in jazz or contemporary music, with a unique level of performance. Artist, scholar and researcher, in the past years Claudio held cultural projects involving social, educational, and cultural decentralization aspects of the creative economy.

Since 1998 Claudio works intensely as a curator in music projects, having designed events such as the first winter festivals in cities of Rio de Janeiro, leading great names of Brazilian music to perform on those cities and also supporting local artists, as well as refreshing projects idealizers in the field of contemporary instrumental music, nationally and internationally.

As founder of the first Winter Festival of Rio de Janeiro in the cities of Petropolis and Friburgo, Claudio contributed to the concept of cultural democratization, bringing free music to the streets and theaters for several cities, enabling access to national and international culture with artists in many places over Brazil and abroad. The festival promotes a great social campaign to collect donations, and in recent years has come to garner nearly 15 tons.

With the traveling project “Caravan Instrumental” sponsored by Votorantim, passed by the cities of Cascavel, Londrina and Joinville with several shows on an adapted truck, wher PianOrquestra, Barbatuques of basses Orchestra, Uakti group and several other leading artists performed Brazilian instrumental music to underserved areas, expanding access and providing the democratization of various musical languages.

Claudio created the project Brave New Music in 2013 at the Banco do Brazil Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro. The collaborative project brought together musicians from four continents which brought the most advanced techniques and technology in music. Through unexpected encounters, shared experiences and encouraged the exchange of knowledge and new aesthetic directions with the use of technology applied to music, involving world premieres of some pieces.

Idealized the PianOrquestra group, where he currently participates as musical director, artistic director and pianist. The group, considered groundbreaking by critics, has won the prize Directions in 2005, features a cutting-edge work with Brazilian influences in rhythm, language and repertoire, recently celebrating its 10th anniversary with his second DVD “MULTIFONIAS. The project contributed to the improvement in training and directing the careers of several pianists of the new generation, opening the field for new research into presentation formats, sound research and ways to exploit the technique of prepared piano, with electronic processing, integrating technological resources and images.

The PianOrquestra also developed towards other aspects of experimentation, exploring new repertoire, including the Cage and Ligetti sonatas and group compositions as Perk, which were presented at the Multiplicity Festival, idealized by Batman Zavareze and SARC – Sonic Arts Research Center in the United Kingdom.

As an educator, Claudio participated in major festivals in Brazil giving lectures, courses and workshops such at festivals Montreux (CH), Oslo Univesity (NO), Codarts (Rotterdam) (NE), London University (UK), Sofia Music Academie (BU), Festival de Itajaí (PA), Festival Domingos Martins (ES), Festival of Guaramiranga (EC), and in major Brazilian Universities.

Participated as a lecturer in Classical Next (Vienna, 2014) and worked as a curator in Jazzahead (Bremen, 2013). Also participates in international events like Midem and
Womex. Claudio is the artistic director of the Festival RC4, pointing out new directions in classical music and use of new technologies.
